Job Summary
The Social Worker III for Child/Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry is a specialized clinical position. The Social Worker III provides clinical assessment of the comprehensive mental health needs of children, adolescents and their families who are dealing with complex issues such as anxiety, trauma, witnessing violence, child sexual abuse, maltreatment, separation, divorce, and parenting. The successful candidate will provide advanced clinical intervention to this population through a broad range of therapeutic frameworks including individual therapy, family therapy, play therapy, attachment therapy, group therapy (both with children and parents), and trauma debriefing. The Social Worker III will also provide service to the single session walk in clinic.
This position will also provide community education sessions and consultations. At times may be required to prepare reports and provide testimony. The Social Worker III will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.

This position reports to the Program Manager of Child/Adolescent Community Mental Health Services and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job Demands

Occasionally there is lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs.
Occasionally work demands result in considerable fatigue requiring periods of rest.
Constantly sits to work on the computer or to drive to meetings.
Regularly uses fine finger/precision work to enter information into computer systems.
Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work into computerized systems.
A higher than normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure their health and safety, staff's safety, and to prevent any possible dangers or hazards from happening.
Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
Occasionally there are interruptions due to a crisis situation.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited
program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Five (5) years of recent experience in the past seven (7) in mental health and in-depth knowledge and experience working with young children and families is required.
Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in assessment, analytical/critical thinking, organizational, leadership, supervision and oral/written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
